Hidden Legends is returning to Kindle Unlimited

Over the weekend, there was a development that has caused Alicia and I to make an unexpected decision. Amazon reverted many of our free first-in-series titles to paid, and the support agents we spoke to declined to change our prices back to free. Almost all of our titles that we offer for free on other retailers are no longer available as free on Amazon, including multiple books in the Hidden Legends Universe. Amazon did not inform us prior to switching pricing on our titles.

Despite discussing options with Amazon representatives all weekend, it is our understanding that Amazon will no longer offer our books for free unless the representatives choose to price match those books at a time they decide. It is no longer left up to our discretion.

Alicia and I are very lucky in that our income is not entirely dependent on Amazon, like many authors are. But after taking a deeper look, it is clear that the choice to remain on multiple retailers in ebook format after this policy change would be a cost our business would suffer from. As Alicia is the only income source for her family, and I am disabled and must work from home, the choice is clear for us to make.

So— here are the changes.

All Hidden Legends ebook titles are returning back into the Kindle Unlimited program in two weeks’ time (from the date of this post, September 28). We are making this announcement to give our readers time to purchase any ebook copies they do not have before we remove ebook versions from Nook, Apple, Kobo, Google, Yearn, our personal websites, and other platforms. If you purchased a copy on one of these platforms at any time, you will get to keep it. The process to move over to Kindle Unlimited will take time, so please be patient with us as we make the switch.

Our audiobooks will continue to remain wide on all retailers. You may listen to our audio on any platform you wish going forward, including Spotify, Yearn and others, as this will only be an ebook change.

On the positive side, if you have a Kindle Unlimited subscription, the switch means you will be able to read all Hidden Legends’ ebook titles on Kindle for free. As for the foreseeable future, all new releases from Alicia and I will be launched in the Kindle Unlimited program and will not be released wide.

The Phoenix Dawning ebook will remain on wide retailers like Google, Nook, Kobo and Apple for one week after release in order to honor our promise to wide readers and make sure everyone who has stayed with us through the journey of Prison for Supernatural Offenders will have a chance to obtain the ebook on their chosen platform. Once seven days have passed since the release, The Phoenix Dawning ebook will be removed from other platforms and will only be available in Kindle Unlimited.

Some of our ebooks that are outside the Hidden Legends’ Universe will remain wide on all retailers, and on platforms like Yearn. Ebook series like Crystal Frost, Divine Fate, Song of Dragonfire, the Creatures of the Lands saga and others will continue to be available on all platforms.

The book industry can change overnight, and we must be fluid and move with it. Alicia and I are committed to finding as many options for our readers to enjoy the Hidden Legends’ Universe as possible. Hopefully this new change will turn out for the better.

The good news: we CAN tell you that this change has urged us to move some things around. Books that we’ve kept quiet on and had waiting in the wings will be released much faster than we anticipated. You will receive several announcements in the upcoming weeks before The Phoenix Dawning’s arrival about upcoming releases and brand new series that we are very excited to be sharing with you.

One thing’s for sure— you guys are going to have plenty of exciting things to read.
